The following is a list of songs that Paul McCartney has performed in concert, as have been officially released on seven live albums: WINGS OVER AMERICA (1976), TRIPPING THE LIVE FANTASTIC (1990), UNPLUGGED (1991), PAUL IS LIVE (1993), BACK IN THE U.S. (2002), GOOD EVENING NEW YORK CITY (2009), and AMOEBA GIG (2019; recorded in 2007). This list also includes the four George Harrison songs that McCartney performed at the 2002 "Concert for George" (released on the 2003 album CONCERT FOR GEORGE) and the five songs that appeared on the 2003 live album BACK IN THE WORLD that weren't already on BACK IN THE U.S. (2002).
Paul McCartney has performed other songs live that do not appear below since they do not appear on the above albums. For example, the 1974 Wings song "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five" was not performed in concert by Paul until 2010 when it became part of his tour setlist. Another example: In 2001, McCartney's Live at the Cavern Club DVD was released featuring mostly covers of 1950s rock & roll songs. However, it was not officially released as an album and therefore its songs are not included below.
From this list of songs, one might be able to see what songs are considered to be the most popular or crowd-pleasing in McCartney's oeuvre. Certain songs like "Hey Jude" or "Yesterday" would seem to be no-brainers when preparing a tour setlist, since many attendees would be disappointed not to hear them performed. On the other hand, it might be seen that lesser songs like "Lady Madonna," "My Love" and "Let Me Roll It" have been done too often already, and might deserve a rest in favor of other songs that haven't been performed as often. It could also be argued that the lyrics of songs like "I Saw Her Standing There" (with its opening reference to a 17 year old girl) and "Back in the U.S.S.R." have not dated well and ought to be replaced with more relevant songs like "Pipes of Peace."
It's surprising to me that songs like "Helen Wheels" (a top 10 hit in the U.S.), "Take It Away" (also peaked at #10), "With a Little Luck" (#1 single in the U.S.) and "No More Lonely Nights" (#6 in the U.S.) are entirely absent from the list below. Famous Beatles songs like "Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da," "Maxwell's Silver Hammer," and Good Day Sunshine" are also not represented. One could compile a list of such "missing" songs to suggest a track-listing for a future McCartney live album that wouldn't simply repeat the ones that have already been released.
